Social activists trained in ICTs
Rosario, Argentina - Social activists in rural areas of Rosario, Argentina were recently trained in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to enhance awareness of communication rights and social concerns among the marginalised communities. Participants were exposed to practical use of new technologies to identify and discuss social concerns in order to strengthen good citizenship and to improve their communities. They were drawn from local and rural organisations, in particular, the coordinators of local community ‘telecentres’, and social movements in the vicinity.
The four workshops organised by Nodo Tau, a local civic association, were aimed at working with the most marginalised sectors to promote the right to communicate, to train people working in popular communication and to create a coordinators’ network for people using ICTs for social development. The project was supported by WACC.
The Nodo Tau civic association, founded by social activists specialising in the use of ICTs for democratic participation, is a not-for-profit group of professionals dedicated to facilitating access by community organisations to ICTs in order to combat poverty alleviation and social exclusion.
